Total Screws - 149
1/4" & 1/2" American walnut rounded corner braces.
Legs made from four-quarter American walnut -
tapered from 3" at top to 2" at the bottom with bandsaw and finished with block plane, cabinet plane, and cabinet scraper and then sanded.
View of corner braces & legs secured to the sides using two three inch hanger bolts on each leg. Some of the reason for using baltic birch were strength, easy of making curves, more stable than solid walnut, equipment needed, and finally cost. I compared all the pros and cons to using solid wood and concluded that I could never make the sides with the beautiful grain patterns I did with solid wood.
The drawers have a spring-loaded walnut stop that prevents the drawers from being pulled off the walnut drawer guides. One only has to pull the drawers out until the back of drawer catches the stop. To remove the drawer he/she reaches in the drawer pushes up on the stop and pulls the drawer out.
Finally, I had a chance to update my photos of the China cabinet and has you can see the cabinet is completed. I have two different profiles of custom made molding that will be installed around the base and where the top and bottom attach. The base moldings consist of three pieces of maple with three different router bits to make one complete profile.
I will continue to add photographs, so check back!
